Debtors’ Prison is a song about a lamentable story, in contemporary classical style. It was written long ago, though not necessarily in response to anything that was going on at the time. Yet it can be noted that debt, borrowing and deadbeats have been with us for as long as money has been coined.

The song was originally written for voice and piano alone. It is revived now again by the formidable talent of lead singer Gregorstan Wolforfox, in a feat of vocal acrobatics and tonal acuity beyond the technique and ear of today’s common vocal pop artists. This newest revised version also makes use of the synthesized authentic orchestral instruments from the Vienna Symphony Library of sounds.

For those musically inclined we are pleased to report that this song begins in 12-tone style, which congeals into an uplifting major key ending when the protagonist becomes overcome with a vision of redemption. Imagine that – all that being through music!

Here in the debtors’ prison

19 hours in the fields each day
75 cents a week is all we get paid
Sometimes we have to eat bugs
